His motto is “I treat every car just like it was mines.” Thirty plus years later, Chris’ Detail Service is stronger than ever because of a dream driven by determination and a passion for cars.
Christopher “Chris” L. Burton is the second oldest of six children born to M. Francis and William Burton. Not afraid of work, Chris began washing cars around his neighborhood when he was only 9 years old. He purchased his first car at the age of 15 despite not being old enough to drive. Upon graduating Millbrook High School class of 1977, he attended Wake Tech for 3 weeks only to realize school was not for him. He began detailing cars part time for five years. After being employed at a variety of automobile companies in various positions and at the young age of 22, Chris ventured out on his own and established Chris’ Detail Service in 1981.
The first location was on Capital Blvd. At that time, there was only three other detail shops in the area. During the next 12 years, he would open 3 additional locations employing and teaching others to detail cars. Chris’ Detail was one of the first businesses to offer mobile service, going to the client’s location. He strategically placed all the equipment and supplies in a van necessary to wash and/or detail vehicles. This would create a new extension of the business in which 5 vans were added.
In 2008, at the onset of the recession the business was downsized to the original location on Capital Blvd and the mobile vans. The mobile service would prove to be beneficial to the business and to those who rented the vans. In June of 2012, after 30 plus years, Chris closed the last location on Capital Blvd. This by far would prove to be the most difficult decision Chris would make. He would continue to detail cars via mobile service.
Today, his love for God, jovial personality and passion for cars proves to be the inspiration to keep his dream alive. Chris’ Detail service continues to thrive with two vans and one employee. He attributes his success to the many friends and clients who have been with him for 30 years, who continue to utilize his services weekly, monthly and/or quarterly.
